The opening ceremony of Kyoto International Film and Art Festival will launch the 1st edition of the new festival at Gion Katurenjo Theatre, renowned as the home of the performance of Miyako Odori. The ceremony filled with celebrities will be a spectacular one showcasing the flavor of Kyoto at a place with a long and distinguished history.
Many actors and directors from the film world in Japan and abroad will hold screenings during the festival and attend the event. Artists from the Art section of the festival will also attend the special opening ceremony. Film director Sadao Nakajima, who is the chairman of Kyoto International Film and Art Festival, will give an announcement during the ceremony, with an introduction of each sections of Film, Arts and Events, and then an award ceremony will follow including the announcement of the winner of the Shozo Makino Award.
The venue, Gion Kobu Kaburenjo Theatre, is a historical building that was renovated from the Seiju-in Temple of Kennin-ji Temple which used to be located on the west side of Hanamikoji Dori until 1873.
